Mission and objectives

The United Nations Security Council in Resolution 2245 adopted on 09 November 2015 established the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS). This replaced the United Nations Support Office for AMISOM (UNSOs), established in 2009. https://unsos.unmissions.org/unsos-mandate. United Nations Security Council Resolution 2245 decided that UNSOS will be responsible for support to AMISOM, UNSOM, the Somali National Army (SNA) and the Somali Police Force (SPF) on joint operations with AMISOM.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Chief General Supply Unit the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
• Assists the Supervisor with the planning of the Asset management operations, monitor progress through statistical analysis of database records and monthly progress reports for the Unit/Section;
• Assist with monitoring ongoing operations, undertaking regular site visits of field mission offices, and carrying out physical inspections and verification of UN property;
• Responsible for the maintenance of accurate and auditable records, in both hard and electronic format, for accountability of UN property at the mission in conformance with Administrative Instructions, LDS/DFS guidelines, and mission Property Management standard operating procedures;
• Perform technical evaluation of the specifications of goods ordered based on the information provided by the vendors in their technical bids. Monitoring and coordinating closely with procurement on the supplies to ensure timely delivery of the goods. Performing the preliminary inspection of the Supply items for quality and quantity ordered in coordination with Receiving and Inspection Unit
• Monitors the Umoja Inventory Management database, ensuring anomalies are identified in Discrepancy Reports and addressed immediately;
• Identifying and recommending assets for write-off in stock which is damaged, beyond economical repair, obsolete, or surplus;
• Assists in the preparation of accurate and auditable statistical reports for management and draft correspondence, as required;
• Assists the Chief of the Unit/Section in compilation and drafting the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and flow charts relating to all aspects of Asset Management activities within the context of the overall mandate of the Unit, including terms of reference and job descriptions for the Staff in the Unit.
• Identifies issues and implement solutions to problematic areas related to Asset Management.
• Ensure accurate tracking of assets, implement and monitor the periodic physical verification process.
• Performs other duties as required.
