This assignment is to provide a copy editor for the 2021 annual report under the MYA.
Copy editor for the MYA 2021 annual report
The MYA annual reports, published in English, are an important publication to showcase results achieved through extra-budgetary funds by the Department. DPPA uses these reports for outreach, to share success stories, and to meet its reporting obligations to donors. Its key audience include DPPA staff, UN entities, Member States, and with regional, sub-regional and local partners.
Based on an initial draft provided by DPPA, the purpose of this contract is to edit/revise/embellish the MYA 2021 annual report by highlighting DPPA’s impact and results achieved in 2020. To showcase DPPA’s unique value-added, the 2021 annual report needs to communicate a compelling story of how the Department is delivering positive change on the ground. As the world adapts to the new realities of the COVID-19 pandemic, the report will also need to illustrate how the Department adapted and continues to deliver results.
The consultant will copywrite the 2021 annual report ensuring focus on results/impact, accuracy, clarity and consistency. Compared to previous annual reports, the 2020 MYA annual report must be shorter, more data driven while still keeping some story telling on country-specific situations.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) is responsible for all Secretariat matters related to the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts at the global level. DPPA is the lead entity of the United Nations for good offices, political analysis, mediation, electoral assistance, peacebuilding support and political guidance as they relate to the Organization’s efforts in preventive diplomacy, peacemaking, peacebuilding and sustaining peace.
The Department was established on 1 January 2019 following the reform of the United Nations peace and security infrastructure, which brought together the former Department of Political Affairs (DPA) and the United Nations Peacebuilding Support Office. DPA and the former Department of Peacekeeping Operations (now the Department of Peace Operations, or DPO) also merged their respective regional divisions to create a single structure.
The Multi-Year Appeal (MYA) is DPPA’s primary extra-budgetary instrument to fund its work to strengthen peace and security worldwide. It allows the Department to be more field-oriented and operational. The MYA is flexible (70 per cent unearmarked), fast (can be deployed within 72 hours) and global (funds political work worldwide). In the peace and security pillar, the MYA has demonstrated its comparative advantage by nimbly complementing other funding instruments, such as the Peacebuilding Fund and the UNDP-DPPA Joint Programme on Conflict Prevention. The MYA is also instrumental in translating the priorities set out in DPPA’s Strategic Plan for 2020-2022 into action.
