Corporate & Foundation Relations Officer – College of Fine Arts

University Advancement (UA) supports the entire CMU community in building relationships with key constituencies and securing the financial resources the university needs to continue its ascent. We are seeking an associate director, Institutional Partnerships within the College of Fine Arts (CFA). This is an exciting opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment. Reporting to the associate dean for Advancement at CFA, you will be responsible for the development of major, leadership and principal gifts and mutually beneficial partnerships with corporations and foundations and all other institutional partners in support of the College of Fine Arts, the University’s strategic priorities, and the University Advancement division. You will be an effective frontline fundraiser who plans, organizes, and manages the development of support from corporations and or foundations.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies and programs to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate and foundation prospects.
  • Managing ongoing relationships and serving as a primary liaison with external organizations and deans, faculty, and other key internal stakeholders.
  • Identifying and analyzing information pertinent to development of relationships with potential corporate and foundation donors. Prepare and present reports for university officials and external audiences.
  • Reviewing, developing and delivering proposals with the goal to increase gifts, collaborating with divisions and schools.
  • Supporting CFA’s efforts to grow its research culture; keep current on programs and faculty, research and student initiatives.
  • Collaborating closely with CFA’s associate dean for research to develop and manage sponsored projects and grants.
  • Assuming and achieving annual fundraising and activity goals.
  • Implementing assigned stewardship activities.
  • Maintaining up to date reports and records of all interactions.
  • Potentially mentoring or providing direction to lower-level officers.
  • Managing or collaborating with other gift officers on a portfolio of corporate and foundation prospects.
  • Expected travel:  2-10 days per year.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and reasoning skills, analytical skills and oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Interest in all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting the university’s funding priorities through developing excellent working relationships with faculty, senior academic leaders, trustees and other volunteers, and the university and college advancement teams.
  • Personal belief in mission, goals and objectives of private higher education.
     

You should be able to travel domestically and be willing to work outside of normal business hours as needed.
 

Qualifications 

  • A bachelor’s degree is required
  • 5-7 years of experience in fundraising, foundation, sales or market development, preferably within a higher education fundraising setting
     

Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and successfully complete a driver’s license verification on an annual basis. Must complete the National Safety Council Defensive Driver Training once every three years
  • Successful background check
