Reporting directly to the CIO, The Data & Analytics Lead defines the data and analytics strategy and supports the data governance program for the organization. They will lead the planning, evaluation, selection and implementation of the best-fit data advanced analytics and data science capabilities for the CRC and help the organization’s analytics specialists to achieve the top D&A skills, processes, and technologies possible. They serve as an advisor to the leadership team to develop and deliver enterprise-wide solutions for complex data challenges, including developing and applying algorithmic models to derive insights, improve decision making, and automate processes.
In this role, you will:
Define Data & Analytics Strategy: In close collaboration with the Knowledge Data Information (KDI team), identify and standardize the use and governance of data and analytics. This includes the governance of data and algorithms used for analysis, analytics applications and automated decision making. Create value by unlocking and sharing data and information in ways which will spur innovation.
Data Governance: Support KDI in cascading data strategy into data governance to promote data access, quality, and analytical capability, including creating a knowledge worker training program, a data stewardship model, and data standards. Develop and maintain controls on data quality, interoperability, and sources to effectively manage risks associated with the use of data and analytics. Strive to reduce the cost of managing data and increase the value of the data.
Identify and Define Data & Analytics Investments: Work with business and IS leaders as well as with the Enterprise Architect (EA) to identify areas of technical needs for future data science capabilities. Drive the development and deployment of the Azure-based data and analytics platform. Identify and prioritize business projects and enterprise data initiatives utilizing data science capabilities.
Advise and Report: Serve as the Data Analytics technical advisor. Represent the D&A team at the leadership meetings and conferences. Develop and deliver presentations on the power and value of data. Lead and/or serve on steering committees and provide guidance to the leadership on the effective use of its data.
Facilitate Internal and External Collaboration: Collaborate with the industry data experts to allow a proactive approach to improving insights derived from various data sources. Apply expert knowledge and mastery of advanced mathematics/statistical/computer science methods, theories, and standards to analyze enterprise results and reports. Recommend and pursue collaboration and provide appropriate technical guidance to ensure the success of such collaborations. Interact with business areas and IS on D&A solutions.
Identify Opportunities for New Data Products: Lead strategy development for D&A products to ensure the program becomes pervasive throughout the organization and help enable new revenue streams. To support these endeavours, collaborate with the CIO and EA to ensure that digital products are released on time, on budget and with high quality. Act as a champion for the information services and related D&A capabilities.
What we are looking for:
Credentials and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Analytics, Computer Science or related fields; Master’s preferred.
10+ years of progressively responsible relevant experience in data management, including creating partnerships, implementing data governance, and understanding the underlying technologies needed to enable data innovation across a midsized or large organization.
Experience in computer programming, query languages, and Cloud-based data visualization platforms such as PowerBI.
Demonstrated experience with developing data strategy, policies, and procedures, as well as successfully executing programs that meet or exceed expectations in a dynamic environment; experience creating tools and capabilities to assist with data discovery & collaboration, ensuring data quality, and loading, cleaning, enriching, managing, and sharing data and metadata from a variety of sources.
Strong familiarity with the Azure data technologies stack and Extract Transform Load (ETL) tools.
Knowledge and Skills
Ability to define strategic initiatives and oversee the development of long-term plans and proposals.
Ability to effectively drive business, culture, and technology change in a dynamic and complex operating environment.
Information management and quantitative skills, including working knowledge of IT infrastructure, various technologies/platforms, and enterprise-specific vendor solutions.
Good facilitator, persuasive negotiator, and communicator – both orally and written, and be able to produce clear and concise documentation, including presentation and training materials and other documentation.
This position is required to work from home.
Some travel across Canada may be required for meeting with clients, stakeholders, or off-site personnel/management.
