The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) is a volunteer-led, not-for-profit, medical society. It is an independent, non-governmental organisation.

The ESC’s members and decision-makers are healthcare professionals. They give their time and expertise freely, while continuing their daily, high-paced clinical and/or research work. ESC volunteers are world renowned experts. Their opinions are routinely sought and their papers regularly published and referenced.
The ESC is a source of high quality, evidence-based science that pushes the boundaries of cardiovascular.
The ESC coordinates observational registries, creates clinical practice guidelines and organises and endorses educational programmes. We disseminate robust and independent science through our congresses, journals and educational digital tools, such as mobile apps and our website. We’re the voice of the cardiology community when advocating for heart-health policies, regulations and funding. All of these things enable us to:

The ESC is currently looking for a talented EU Projects Officer for a determined contract (24 months), as from as soon as possible, based in the ESC Brussels office.

Main responsibilities:

Be responsible for the daily implementation of EU funded projects

  • Plan and organise activities in the assigned area of work in line with the project´s work plan ensuring the timely accomplishment of work outputs.
  • Be accountable for the implementation of specific activities foreseen in the projects including liaison with the project coordinator, other partners and relevant stakeholders.
  • Organise project events, meetings, workshops and other activities in line with project’s work plan in the assigned area of work. Draft agenda, identify participants and resource persons.
  • Prepare background materials for project events such meeting folders and inputs to speeches and presentations.
  • Be responsible for all logistical issues, including the organisation of meetings, missions, events, travel arrangements.
  • Contribute to development of the project’s communications and visibility plan. Prepare and coordinate preparation of inputs to its implementation and update.
  • Update web pages and write articles. Support the preparation, management and regular update of the project database, newsletter and mailing lists.
  • Ensure visibility of the projects in various newsletters/bulletins, twitters, press.
  • Active contribution to other day-to-day operations of the projects

Ensure compliance with EU procedures and rules

  • Regularly monitor expenditures ensuring that budget allocations are not exceeded
  • Maintain project documentation electronically and on physical file
  • Assist the project manager when preparing EU reporting and official documents (timesheets, financial statements, project deliverables related to management and dissemination, reports, minutes, presentations)

Assist with preparation of project proposals

  • Support the Project Manager with the tasks required for the submission of EU project proposals, including assisting with the organisation of consortium meetings and liasing with project partners



  • 3 years experiences in project planning and management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office required).
  • University degree


  • Strong organisational, project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Diplomatic, with strong communication and engagement skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to details.
  • Be a dynamic pro-active team-player.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.
