Extend-A-Family in Toronto is a:
Non-profit, charitable organization governed by a volunteer board of directors, comprised of parents of children with disabilities, self-advocates and interested community members.

They work in community to facilitate in building of relationships between individuals who have developmental disabilities and other members of the community.

You provide vision and plan strategies consistent with the Extend- A-Family’s mission, vision, and values in collaboration with the Board of Directors and staff.

You provide strategic, financial and operational leadership to support the Board of Directors.

You have expertise in developing a fundraising strategy to attract donors, generate and ensure future funding.

You have a strong understanding of change management and experience leading and guiding a team towards transition.

You provide leadership to staff and oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization.


Leadership and Management

Create an environment and culture that focuses on fulfilling the organization’s vision, mission and values.

Streamline processes and systems internally to improve efficiencies and achieve operational excellence.

Build a positive and forward-looking work environment that allows staff to contribute to the best of their abilities.

Exceptional team-building, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Responsible to deliver and execute on the Strategic Plan, including budgets and meeting timelines on specific deliverables as set out in the plan.

Strong leadership capability to direct the development of a new Strategic Plan.

Provide oversight in the recruitment and training of new employees.

Reinforce Extend-A-Family’s commitment toward inclusion and fostering a life of belonging for children and youth with developmental disabilities.

Finance and Operations

Develop annual budgets that are consistent with the Extend-A- Family’s approved strategic and operational plans.

Maintain fiscal responsibility, timely reporting, and ongoing transparency with the Board about the organization’s finances.

Ensure financial health of the organization including collaboration with the auditor for annual financial reporting and tax filing.

Fundraising and Resource Development

Lead the planning and implementation of a robust fundraising strategy with a focus on securing funding from government, corporations, foundations, partnerships, and individual donors.

Develop sound marketing and communication strategies that express and enhance the mission of Extend-A-Family and facilitates donor engagement.

Build financial stability for the future that will expand and deepen the impact of Extend-A-Family.

Community and Stakeholder Engagement

Network and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Develop relationships with other social service agencies and community groups.

Represent the organization among stakeholders increasing visibility and promoting public awareness of Extend-A-Family program and philosophy.

Maintain solid internal and external reputation and relationships.

Experience, Skills and Education

5+ years of senior leadership and management experience within the not-for-profit sector.

Strategic leadership and planning. Fundraising experience is essential.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Strong understanding of fundraising, financial planning and budget management.

Proficiency in business productivity tools, devices, and cloud-based platforms (including donor CRMs).

Post-secondary degree preferred or relevant sector leadership experience.



The hiring range for this role is $100,000 – $125,000


4 weeks vacation.

Laptop, cell phone and internet allowance provided. Expense account for business purposes.

Mileage reimbursement when personal vehicle used for business- related travel.

Underground parking provided. Comprehensive benefit plan.

Workplace Environment

This is a GTA based remote/hybrid role. Extend-A-Family’s office located at 200-3300 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON.

Occasional travel to conferences and staff retreat.

Extend-A-Family requires all staff to be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination status.

Checks and Verifications

The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Police and Vulnerable Sector Check dated within two (2) months from date of hire.
