Currently, some 80,600 asylum-seekers and refugees are hosted in Greece. During 2021, over 9,000 people have arrived either by sea or land – a significant reduction compared to previous years. UNHCR supports the Government who coordinates the refugee and migrant response in the development of policy, capacity building and targeted interventions in the areas of reception, asylum procedures and for finding durable solutions, with a focus on integration. The Information Management Intern will be part of the Information Management Unit in the UNHCR Country Office in Athens, contributing to the implementation and operationalization of the country/operation-specific Information Management/Data collection strategy and operational standards. This position is primarily intended to provide interns with the opportunity to undertake a work experience in the field of information management, linked to their background that will help them with their future careers in the area of data sciences.

Eligibility Requirements:

In order to be considered for the internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be a recent graduate or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO;
  • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in information management, computer science, information systems, statistics, data sciences or other relevant fields;
  • Have no immediate relatives (father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister) working as staff members of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holders or members of the Affiliate Workforce.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The purpose of this internship is to enable young professionals to gain direct Information Management experience in a UNHCR operation by integrating to the workflow and activities of the Information Management Unit at the Country Office in Athens, Greece.

The Intern will perform the following functions:

  • Assist in data collection, processing and analysis and perform information quality and consistency control.
  • Assist in data curation through manual or semi-manual/semi-automatic methods on raw data received from multiple sources, with the scope of further analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and project documents by providing information, preparing tables and graphs.
  • Support the production of Information Management products such as summary statistics, maps, dashboards and infographics.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  •  Advanced Excel skills and good written and oral communication capacity;
  •  Fluency in English;
  •  Autonomy in work and readiness to work as a team member;
  •  High level of interest and motivation in data management.
