Position description

The Girl Scouts Program Office supports the Movement by developing inclusive, innovative, and relevant national programs and Girl Scout Leadership experiences that fulfill the Girl Scout mission. The teams in this community are responsible for the full lifecycle management of the Girl Scout experience including the development and delivery of national programs and products – from research to publication of program content, from cultivation of national partnerships to engaging with the global sisterhood, from developing property strategy to travel and virtual programs. The teams work closely with all other GSUSA communities to bring an exceptional experience to our members and to ensure a vibrant, sustainably growing movement.

You Will: The Manager**Global Advocacy will work closely with the Senior Director, Global Girl Scouting to execute the implementation of GSUSA’s national global advocacy and engagement strategy through program and project management.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Support GSUSA’s engagement and participation at the United Nations, particularly for Commission on the Status of Women and International Day of the Girl. Support engagement with other globally focused partners
  • Support GSUSA’s membership and develop/implement partnership initiatives with World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS)
  • Collaborate with GSUSA Social Media team to develop appropriate social media content and engagement strategy
  • Support the program office in the development of annual global programs

Required Competencies:

  • Experience working with an international non-profit organization (youth-based preferred) or a non-governmental organization (NGO) providing program management and/or services to a broad global youth-based audience strongly preferred
  • Understanding and strong interest in current global issues (global girl issues a strong plus)
  • Experience living and/or working in a country outside of the United States desirable
  • Fluency in a second language desirable
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining relationships and activities with internal/external partners
  • Proven experience in organizing and planning events
  • Experience managing multiple projects, meeting tight deadlines and working independently with attention to detail
  • Experience in managing social media and web platforms
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Prior experience working either in GSUSA, Council or Girl Guide/Girl Scout organization a plus

Required Technical Skills:

  • Office 365 or similar suites
  • Competency in PowerPoint or similar presentation software
  • Competency in Microsoft Excel or similar software
  • Solid knowledge of use of technology facilitates communication in a global setting (Skype, Webinars etc.)

You Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in international relations or a related area strongly preferred or equivalent relevant experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working with an international non-profit organization (youth-based preferred) or a non-governmental organization (NGO) providing program management and/or services to a broad global youth-based audience strongly preferred

Preferred Education and Experience: OTHER* REQUIREMENTS*: 

  • Bilingual – Fluency in a second language desirable
