The Department of Housing and Residential Education (DHRE) at Cal State University San Bernardino promotes Each Student’s Learning Experience by creating safe, supportive learning environments for academic and personal success. Job Summary


  • Apply paints and finishes neatly and accurately to interior and exterior surfaces and structures to include but not limited to walls, stairwells, hand rails, doors, trash enclosures, etc.
  •  Patch, prepare and finish surfaces to a high level of aesthetic quality and durability with approved department colors.
  • Provide an estimate of timeline for special projects, major repairs, and/or recommendations. Seek proper approval for ordering materials and supplies as needed for upcoming projects.
  • Maintain logs of completed work categorized by building, space, bedroom, doors, etc. Provide reports and other specific information required for efficient record-keeping to assist in creating future projections for paint schedules and deferred maintenance forecasting.


  • Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.


Employment Status: Full-time, “non-exempt”, temporary, emergency hire appointment.

Work Schedule

  • Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm OR Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.


Key Qualifications

  • Applicants must be familiar with professional painting trade standards, safety, OSHA, and applicable state and local codes.
  • Applicants must possess the ability to push, pull, lift and carry loads up to 50 lbs.
  • Applicants must have the ability to maintain effective work relationships with staff and students.
  • Applicants must have the ability to climb ladders, work from rigging, reach overhead, kneel, bend over and crouch as needed.
  • Applicants must have the ability to read and write at an appropriate level.
  • Applicants must have the ability to follow simple oral and written directions.


Education and Experience

  • These abilities normally would be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard painter’s apprenticeship program.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of related experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable state and federal civil rights, education, or employee/labor relations laws and regulations.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Prior experience in a Housing and Residential Life setting or on a college campus is preferred.



Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,402.00

Classification Salary Range: $5,402.00 – $6,904.00 monthly
