Public Information Assistant

This position is in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Deputy Head of the OHCHR Field-based Structure and the overall supervision of the Head of the Office.

Responsibilities:

Within delegated authority, the Public Information Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Assists in drafting and/or compiling information/communication products for print, broadcast, social media for target audiences such as press releases, media packets and reports, brochures, briefings, audio-visual clips, newsletters, website, Twitter and Facebook under close supervision;
  • Provides assistance in the organization of the clearance, production and distribution of reports and information materials, conducts photo and graphic research, provides inputs and suggests ideas on content, narration texts, audio excerpts, designs elements and supports the distribution of public information materials;
  • Under specific direction, tracks, researches and analyses information on assigned topics/issues, gathers information from diverse sources and helps to assess news value and other potential impacts, as well as contributes to the evaluation of the effectiveness of information campaigns;
  • In consultation with others, identifies and proposes information opportunities, activities and approaches, taking into account the situation/topics and target audience; Helps prepare response to external and internal inquires and information requests and drafts related correspondence;
  • Assists in the production and editing of images, videos, and graphics; Helps take photos and video of events; Assists in media relations activities, including coordinating press conferences/briefings, and the organisation of promotional activities and events; facilitates media interviews for OHCHR officials;
  • Manages OHCHR Seoul email and social media accounts; Prepares, maintains and updates OHCHR-Seoul website; Develops and maintains lists of media, civil society and other appropriate partners and establishes professional relationships with these partners and other key constituencies;
  • Helps identify key contacts/constituencies and opportunities for strategic partnerships to facilitate communication efforts and maintains effective working relationships;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical training and certification in journalism or broadcasting, communications, public information, or a particular communications medium is an advantage.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in public communication, social media engagement, broadcasting or related area is required.
  • Experience in maintaining and updating website and/or social media platforms, is required.
  • Experience with drafting and editing social media content, is desirable.
  • Experience in videography and/or photography editing tools, is desirable. .
  • Experience in communications on human rights is desirable.

Languages:

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • For the position advertised, fluency in English and Korean (both oral and written), is required.
