SEED Foundation

Program Overview:

SEED Foundation in coordination with Salahaddin University’s social work department is implementing the ‘Protecting and Empowering Survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI)’ program. This program is supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The aim of the program is to build the next generation of social workers in the KRI by equipping undergraduate students in social work with the knowledge and skills to support vulnerable people, including survivors of GBV and those at risk, to better prepare social work graduates for employment.

Following completion of an assessment for the social work department, SEED’s technical experts will now work closely with faculty at Salahaddin University to strengthen the curriculum through the development of additional content, including gender, gender equality, GBV, and psychosocial support, and adapting global resources to the local context and needs.

Objective of Consultancy

Social work students at Salahaddin University complete a supervised practicum for three months in year 3 at an educational institution. Then, during a portion of Year 4, students complete a practicum at NGOs or government agencies. However, students do not receive consistent supervision, and their progress is not assessed in a comprehensive way.

Accordingly, SEED seeks an expert that is experienced in social work, particularly supervising students, to help equip practicum site supervisors and university faculty with supervision techniques and approaches to assess students’ progress in practical skills. This will include the creation of a standardized processes and guidance for practicum sites and the university including supervision management and requirements, learning contract templates to enhance the practicum experience, and delivery of training
