The Centre for Global Health Research (CGHR) is an independent, not-for-profit organization co-sponsored by Unity Health Toronto and the University of Toronto. Founded in 2002 on the principle that effective health initiatives must be supported by reliable, evidence-based research, CGHR was created to conduct large-scale epidemiological studies in developing countries. CGHR’s mission is to lead high-quality public health research that advances global health for all, with particular attention to the world’s poorest populations.
We are recruiting a skilled and experienced Biostatistician. The successful candidate will work on large-scale epidemiological projects in a team of multidisciplinary scientists, analysts and trainees in our Toronto office as well as with partners in international collaborative efforts. This is a 12-month contract position, renewable subject to performance.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the statistical analysis for research projects, create data visualizations and tables, and be responsible for writing methods and results sections of manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed scientific journals. Working with the data management and IT teams, the Biostatistician will also have a role in organizing and maintaining CGHR’s data holdings. They will provide statistical expertise in the design, analysis, and reporting of research projects and consultative assistance for ad hoc requests. The successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of projects and serve multiple research roles as needed. They will collaborate in the preparation of manuscripts, reports, presentations, and grant applications, and maintain excellent documentation of data management and statistical analysis processes.
Minimum masters-level degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related discipline
Expert computing skills in R for advanced statistical analysis
2+ years experience in applied epidemiological research, study design, cleaning and organization of datasets, and data analysis
Strong proficiency in preparation and linking of large datasets (country level cohort studies, national surveys, censuses, etc.)
Knowledge of relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.)
Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and do independent work
Demonstrated ability to learn new skills and to adapt quickly to changing requirements
Strong problem solving skills, with ability to derive innovative solutions
Strong interpersonal skills
Excellent oral and writing skills; Excellent attention to detail
Experience in global health research and proficiency in languages other than English are assets
Interest in health issues of developing countries is required
