Brief description of the organization

Al Mesalla for Human Resources Development is a non-governmental organization established in 2004 registered in Baghdad and Erbil with headquarters located in Erbil. The organization is working at disseminating a culture of human rights and peace building in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The organization is currently working along 3 programs: A non-violence and peace building program developing peace capacities within the community; a women and Gender program empowering women to take an active role in the community and a Human Rights Program which focuses especially on enhancing freedom of expression. Since June 2014, Al Mesalla developed services to the growing refugee and displaced community settling in the Kurdish Region of Iraq by participating to distributing emergency support and establishing empowerment and livelihoods programs for displaced women in particular.



The objective of this assignment is to equip children, women and people with disabilities with knowledge, skills, attitudes and tools to protect themselves and others from violent conflict and to constructively and safely engage with conflict and violence in their communities


Under the supervision of the Project manager, the Social Cohesion trainer will;

  • Prepare training materials
  • Conduct trainings where participants will get acquainted extensively with the concepts of peace and peaceful coexistence, mechanisms and skills for negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Conduct Training for religious leaders and community leaders on following topics:


  1. Contextual nature of conflict and violence, particularly as experienced in the lives of children and create a culture of peace.
  2. Significance of peace education and cross-cultural understanding and awareness as a way to address the issues underlying destructive conflict.
  3. Principles of good governance and how to engage children as agents of transformation through effective participation.
  • Children’s rights, human rights and freedoms
  • How to engage families and other actors in children’s lives to support their empowerment and participation as peacebuilders.
  1. How to strengthen relationships and social interactions through promoting care, mutuality and trust.



  • To develop the knowledge base and resources for the including training module, guidelines, life skill curriculum Manual and training presentations on above-mentioned topics which can be used during implementation.




Key Responsibilities


Under the supervision of the Project manager, the Social Cohesion trainer will:


  • Design, develop and submit training material (guidelines, training presentations) and training module(s) on peace building and support, social cohesion, in Arabic and English Language.
  • Develop technical and methodological tools related to social-cohesion for capacity-building to the leaders.


  • Conduct an interactive Training for religious leaders and community leaders on social cohesion and peacebuilding
  • Submit a final report of training (which should include the details of training contents, modules developed, participants, methodology, Learning and recommendations) in English Language.



  • Ability to observe agreed timelines
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills;
  • Previous experience of developing modules and conducting trainings
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Commitment to Al-Mesalla’s values and Code of Ethics.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience of conducting capacity building and social cohesion activities/ ToT and development of training modules.
  • Good technical knowledge on Child Protection and child rights issues, human right in alignment with Al-Mesalla’s standards;
  • Experience in providing services to displaced population, minorities, returnees, faith and religious leaders or conflict affected populations.
  • Good technical knowledge on life skills and peace building and Mosul society.
  • Experience of working with Government and/or local and international organizations.
  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in peace building, sociology or related area of study
  • Fluency in English and Arabic languages
  • Strong communication skills and proven ability to collaborate with different civic actors
  • Experience in managing trainings in multi-cultural/ethic audience
  • Strong oral presentation skills to stimulate lively discussion and facilitation of training on conflict prevention, peace building, including confidence building issues with tangible results taking into account the local context
  • Strong experience working with stakeholders in Iraq, especially in Anbar  governorate
