Position overview

The Technical Director – Education will ensure quality in design and implementation of prioritized teaching and learning components, specifically national level Master Trainer training, teacher training, and teaching and learning material development in alignment with PEDP4. The Technical Director- Education will be a key technical person to work the Government of Bangladesh to design its next sector program for primary education.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Technical Director-Education will be responsible for providing technical leadership, quality assurance, and
oversight on technical deliverables and technical implementation across USAID’s Esho Shikhi Activity. Working in close
collaboration with the COP and DCOP, the Technical Director-Education will also advocate for the integration of
activities/best practices of Esho Shikhi into the national level design of the next sector program.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical and operational support to government counterparts and NGO partners on subjects such as Teacher Training
  • Provide quality assurance of teacher training components
  • Contribute substantive technical analysis and inputs for project learning based on the experiences of different cohorts of training
  • Design and articulate follow up support for Teacher Training– which could include different styles of mentoring, school-based professional development activities, peer support approaches, different/innovative ways to support teachers, and identifying other methods for supplemental material development or supplemental trainings
  • Oversee development of Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) including supplementary materials for students, teachers, ongoing professional development, and digital content as needed
  • Identify, capture, synthesize and share lessons learned for knowledge development and capacity development of stakeholders.
  • Provide oversight and integration across all result areas on Esho Shikhi, including facilitating integration of decisions/materials from national level down to local implementation, and integration across all four result areas
  • Collaborate with other staff members including the COP, DCOP, DMERLA, Technical Specialists, Operations team, etc;
  • Other duties as assigned

ADDITIONAL POSITION QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Education

Master’s Degree in Education/Language Education/Bangla preferred.

Experience

A minimum of 15 years’ experience working on education programs – including direct experience
designing and leading teacher training and professional development activities, teaching and learning materials and
approaches, and other similar activities. Must also have a minimum of 4 years’ of demonstrated managerial and/or
technical team leadership experience. Any experience in advisory roles in any early learning program will be an asset.

Computer/Technical Skills

Proficient with MS Office.

Communication Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

Language Skills

English and Bangla speaking, and written communication skills required.
