As part of a new strategic partnership between Harper Adams University and Telford & Wrekin Council, we are looking to recruit a Technical Manager for our new Institute of Animal Diagnostics and Health.

The role will commence prior to completion of the building and as such you will be largely responsible for the soft-landings process post practical completion, forming an intimate knowledge of the building prior to its use as a teaching, diagnostics, and research facility. You will also be required to contribute to procurement processes and other activities such as design and construction meetings pre-completion.

You will then oversee and manage the effective operation of the facility and technical team having their day-to-day management. You will have responsibility for overseeing health and safety and biosecurity arrangements and contribute to service development and maintaining facility records e.g. risk and COSHH assessments, consumables stock control, equipment inventories and compliant waste disposal procedures. As such a knowledge of animal Pathology and the associated industries would be highly desirable.

You will have accountability for maintaining the building’s compliance with any statutory planning conditions, engaging with other HAU colleagues and teams as required, in particular, acting as the Travel Plan Coordinator for the building’s operation in line with the approved Travel Plan agreed with the T&W Planning Authority.

Working with a considerable degree of autonomy you will be responsible for the technical delivery and support of educational and other services within the institute and, as a member of the wider HAU network of facility managers, you will be a member of the Facility Managers’ Group, the University’s Health and Safety Committee amongst other groups and play a full role in the life of the University.

The IADH Team will, once established, be a close-knit and collaborative team comprising: the Head of the Institute and their deputy; the Technical Manager and their wider technical team; academic staff including, but not limited to, veterinary pathologists; administrative and business development staff. Prior to the appointment of the Head of the Institute the Technical Manager post will report directly to the Deputy Vice Chancellor.
