From the Measles Initiative to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, numerous programs focus on promoting health and preventing disease in children under the age of 5– especially in the developing world where kids are about 18 times more likely to die before their fifth birthday than children in high-income countries. Lack of access to vaccines is a big part of the problem.

Luckily, many interventions are working. And they’re working well – vaccines help prevent 2.5 million child deaths every year. Additionally, 6 million bed nets have been delivered to help prevent malaria in young children and their families.
