Introduction
- To identify and assess the potential positive and adverse environmental and social impacts of the full project lifecycle, including land clearing, farming, biorefinery operations, infrastructure installation, and water abstraction.
- To analyze, evaluate and propose measures to prevent, control, mitigate, restore and/or compensate for the potential environmental and social impacts of the Project.
- To establish the Area of Influence (AoI) and assess cumulative impacts with particular attention to biodiversity, land use, water resources, and community livelihoods; as well as specific actions to be taken by contractors and subcontractors.
- To provide a robust Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP)and other instruments detailing environmental and social requirements, a Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) aligned with IFC PS6, and a Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP) with an accompanying Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM).
- To assess project eligibility for biodiversity certification under applicable international standards.
- To inform design modifications and management measures for minimising GHG emissions and enhancing climate resilience.
- To develop a consultation/ stakeholder engagement plan, including an analysis of interested and affected parties, detailing documentation requirements and dissemination of information about the Project.
- To ensure legal compliance with Kenyan Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA) and to facilitate licensing through the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA).
