The Opportunity – Community Engagement Workers – MEAL

Post location:  Gaza Field Office

Contract Duration and Level of Effort:  Until end of the December 2025.

 

ROLE PURPOSE: 

Community Engagement Workers (CEWs) play a critical role in supporting MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) functions at the community level. They assist in conducting field monitoring visits using quality benchmarks and checklists, facilitate focus group discussions, and support data collection activities such as PDMs, exit interviews, and surveys. CEWs ensure the accuracy and completeness of collected data by performing data cleaning and validation before submission to the MEAL team.

In addition, CEWs contribute to the effective implementation of the Complaints and Feedback Reporting Mechanism (FRM), ensuring meaningful community participation particularly among children and delivering timely feedback. They are also responsible for securely handling and documenting all beneficiary-related information, maintaining strict standards of confidentiality and data protection.
Finally, CEWs may also contribute to the preliminary analysis of qualitative data collected through community-level tools.
This is a field-based role with deployments across Deir al-Balah and Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip. The role involves regular travel to field sites.
SCOPE OF ROLE: 

Reports to: MEAL officers/ Accountability Coordinator

Staff reporting to this post: None.

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

Monitoring and Accountability:

  • CEWs assist in conducting field monitoring visits, including the use of quality benchmarks and monitoring checklists, as well as facilitating focus group discussions.
  • CEWs support data collection activities such as Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM), exit interviews, and other relevant surveys.
  • CEWs are responsible for ensuring data quality by cleaning, validating, and verifying the completeness and accuracy of data before submission to the MEAL team.
  • CEWs contribute to the Complaints and Feedback Reporting Mechanism (FRM), including sharing information and promoting participation among children and the wider community.
  • CEWs are also responsible for handling, documenting, and ensuring the confidentiality and security of all beneficiary-related information and data.
  • Support the MEAL team in capturing lessons learned.
  • Immediately report any safeguarding concerns in accordance with Save the Children”s safeguarding policies.

In order to be successful, you will bring/have:
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, management or a related field
  • Possesses experience and knowledge in data collection and MEAL activities
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to actively listening to other people’s ideas and viewpoints.
  • Passionate, self-directed and the ability to manage multiple competing demands and commitments, and to work flexibly in a team.
  • Customer Service Orientation
  • Proficient in relevant computer applications
  • Ability to work in a team with flexibility to undertake challenging task and adapt to different working conditions.
  • Previous experience working directly with communities or marginalized groups is highly desirable.
  • Experience using digital data collection (e.g., Kobo Toolbox) is an advantage.
  • Fluency in Arabic is required. Basic in English (written and verbal) is desirable.
