JOB DESCRIPTION

Organization Mission

UNAIDS is leading the global effort to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 as part of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Since the first cases of HIV were reported more than 35 years ago, 78 million people have become infected with HIV and 35 million have died from AIDS-related illnesses. Since it started operations in 1996, UNAIDS has led and inspired global, regional, national and local leadership, innovation and partnership to ultimately consign HIV to history.

UNAIDS is a problem-solver. It places people living with HIV and people affected by the virus at the decision-making table and at the centre of designing, delivering and monitoring the AIDS response. It charts paths for countries and communities to get on the Fast-Track to ending AIDS and is a bold advocate for addressing the legal and policy barriers to the AIDS response.

UNAIDS provides the strategic direction, advocacy, coordination and technical support needed to catalyse and connect leadership from governments, the private sector and communities to deliver life-saving HIV services. Without UNAIDS, there would be no strategic vision for the AIDS response.

Context

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS is the main advocate for accelerated, comprehensive and coordinated global action on the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The Staff Development and Performance Division (SDP) has launched a series of onboarding microlearning courses that specifically cater to the needs and skillset of different UNAIDS departments, practice areas, and essentially all staff members.

As such, these onboarding courses act as an introduction to UNAIDS to new staff, or staff being relocated into a new role. They range from various skillsets essential to staff across the organization, including from Practice Areas overviews to Basics of HIV and many more.

Key Responsibilities

As 5 new online courses have been launched primarily in English language, we are looking for motivated online volunteers to help us in translating the contents into Spanish. In doing so, you will also learn a lot about the work of UNAIDS and the expertise of various staff members. The courses consist of microlearnings that vary from 5–10-minute lessons or 10-15 slides per lesson. Most courses are between 1-1.5 hours, though some may be longer depending on the topic covered. Since they have already been translated by AI, this will drastically cut the work time needed from the online volunteers.

A minimum of 2-3 hours of time spent reviewing the translations per course may be expected. As such, the online volunteers will be needed for around 5-10 hours per week, depending on how many, and which courses they feel comfortable to review. In doing so, you will also learn a lot about the work of UNAIDS and the expertise of various staff members. Candidates should be fully available and committed to complete task/project assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

Fluent in Spanish, French and English – Mother tongue or C1 level certified
Good editing and writing skills in Spanish, English and French
Some experience in international organizations preferred

Location
Remote – Online within CET or LAC, or US Timezone
