Key Responsibilities
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Programme Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Program Assistant will:
• Assist the office team in the collection and analysis of urban development data at national and territorial levels.
• Help identify areas for collaboration with key actors in UN-Habitat programmes, including national and local institutions, UN agencies, development partners, and civil society.
• Support the drafting of working documents, such as concept notes, project presentations, terms of reference, and other technical materials.
• Contribute to the improvement of the national office’s work plan and strategic programming tools.
• Support the design of training programmes and materials related to local governance and capacity-building.
• Contribute to the planning, organization, and implementation of events (meetings, workshops, conferences, expert group meetings, etc.), and assist in the follow-up of recommendations.
• Contribute to awareness-raising and advocacy efforts, including the production of visibility materials, outreach tools, social media content, and knowledge products.
• Support stakeholder engagement through the preparation of meeting minutes, briefing notes, reports, and follow-up documentation to ensure effective coordination with partners.
• Contribute to activity-related communication and coordination with the Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS), UN-Habitat headquarters, and national partners.
• Conduct research on urban planning, design, and resilience, and compile relevant case studies, best practices, and international benchmarks.
• Perform any other duties necessary to ensure the programme’s sustainability, visibility, effectiveness, and growth.
Required Skills and Experience
• At least 3 years of professional work experience, at the national and/or international level, in urban development, experience working in the UN or other international development organization is an asset;
• Required technical knowledge in the field of urban planning
• Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
• Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
• Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
• Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
• Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
• Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
• Sound security awareness;
• Have affinity with or interest in sustainable urban development, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

Living Conditions
Rabat, the capital, is a peaceful city. People are friendly to visitors. Services in terms of banking, transportation, health and communications are easily-available. Road network is good both in terms of spread and quality of the roads. Public transportation in is limited. Taxis are relatively cheap and easily available. There are a number of shopping malls, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas although COVID19 sanitary measures are in application. A large variety of accommodation options can be found. There are no specific security threats.
As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
Entitlements related to the volunteering position:
1. Pre-assignment
Entry lump sum: USD 400
Relocation costs: $200 at beginning and end of assignment if duty station is outside of commuting distance (as determined by UNV)
2. During assignment
Volunteer living allowance: MAD 12721.16

Annual leave: 2.5 days per month

3. End of assignment
Exit allowance (paid on successful completion of the assignment): MAD 1060.1 for each month served, paid on completion of contract.
