ROLE DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE
Eurosif is seeking an experienced Policy Adviser to lead and coordinate policy and advocacy work on selected EU sustainable finance policy files. The role will have a particular focus on public finance, including the EU Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and related instruments (such as the EU Competitiveness Fund), as well as the review of the Shareholder Rights Directive, while also supporting colleagues on other sustainable finance files.
The position combines strategic policy analysis and drafting with advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and the coordination of internal and external working groups. The successful candidate will monitor EU sustainable finance policy developments, represent Eurosif’s positions vis-à-vis EU institutions and other stakeholders, and actively engage with Eurosif’s investor network.
The (Senior) Policy Adviser will work closely with the wider Eurosif team – particularly the other Senior Policy Adviser, the Communications Officer, and the Executive Director – and will report to the Executive Director.
This is a full-time position based in Brussels, with the possibility of partial remote working. Some travel may be required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop Eurosif’s policy positions and reports on EU sustainable finance topics, with a particular focus on public finance instruments and mechanisms to crowd in private investment;
- Design and implement advocacy strategies towards EU institutions, including regular engagement with policymakers, allied organisations, and other stakeholders;
- Coordinate and contribute to selected Eurosif working groups on regulatory, policy, and sustainable investment topics;
- Actively engage with members and investors across the Eurosif network;
- Conduct research on sustainable finance and related policy topics;
- Draft high-quality policy papers, reports, briefing notes, and internal memos;
- Represent Eurosif externally through speaking engagements, conferences, and technical workshops;
- Monitor EU policy and regulatory developments related to sustainable finance, stewardship, and corporate governance, and keep the Executive Director and members informed of key developments;
- Together with the other Senior Policy Adviser, coach and support junior policy colleagues;
- Liaise closely with the Communications Officer on policy-related content and messaging;
- Support the Executive Director and colleagues in identifying priority research topics for Eurosif;
- Contribute to the development of grant proposals and to grant-related reporting.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
- At least 5 years of professional experience in a policy or regulatory role (e.g. NGO, trade association, EU institutions) and/or in the financial sector;
- Demonstrated expertise in sustainable finance. Knowledge of public finance instruments, the EU MFF, and/or the Shareholder Rights Directive (corporate governance/company law) is a strong asset;
- Excellent writing skills, with proven experience drafting policy position papers and high-quality analytical reports;
- Strong experience in EU advocacy and a very good understanding of the EU legislative process;
- Full professional proficiency in English; additional EU languages are an asset;
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to navigate differing perspectives and interests;
- A collaborative team player who is also able to work autonomously and take initiative;
- Confidence in engaging with policymakers, members, and external stakeholders;
- Well-organised, reliable, and able to manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS Teams);
- Legal right to work in Belgium.
