Secretary Clinton’s Commitment to Clean Cookstoves Highlighted in New NYT Profile

As the United States, indeed the world, prepares for the eventual departure of Hillary Rodham Clinton as Secretary of State, I want to draw your attention to a new, in-depth New York Times Magazine profile of this ‘rock star’ diplomat. The opening paragraphs are about her commitment to clean cookstoves! Readers of this blog know that it was Secretary Clinton who launched the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves almost two years ago. The Secretary has […]

Take Action. Stand up for Childhood

Being a mom to Molly and Frankie is the most challenging role I’ve taken on. Two years ago, my youngest daughter, Molly, contracted whooping cough. As any parent can relate, it’s scary when your kids get sick, especially when the doctor isn’t sure what’s wrong. Just after we found out that she had whooping cough, I learned that Molly was part of the largest outbreak in decades. She’s now 2 years old and has fully

Internet Freedom Fellows Find an Ally in UNESCO

Two years ago, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton said, “We need to work toward a world in which access to networks and information brings people closer together and expands the definition of the global community.” This week, I saw her call to action happening live, as a group of six Internet Freedom Fellows, brought together by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Mission in Geneva, sat down to break bread with UNESCO and

While much of the attention surrounding the conference has focused on the outcome document – which is important and should be examined – we can’t measure Rio+20’s success based solely on text.  After all, documents alone don’t produce change – change comes from people taking action.

For sports fans across the country, there’s been some regional parity—a little something for everyone to cheer about. Some champions were expected, while others played the role of

Where’s the Controversy in Saving Lives?

As we get closer to the London Summit on Family Planning, people often ask me, “Why is family planning so important to you?” The simple answer is that it can mean everything to so many of the women and families I meet. It means the difference between being empowered and feeling powerless. It means the difference between celebrating a daughter’s graduation and watching her drop out of school. It even means the difference between life
