POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications Associate will provide cross-cutting communications support for the Carbon Finance Department, covering all Article 6 and carbon market projects across GGGI. The role ensures that GGGI’s carbon work is visible, strategically communicated, and consistent with institutional standards and the needs of member and partner countries, as well as donors and other partners. The position will, therefore, be responsible for managing external communications platforms and channels, drafting and reviewing communications materials, tracking analytics, coordinating with external providers, and acting as the focal point for communications compliance. The Associate will also support event communications, provide orientation and training to comms focal points, and help prepare strategic communications in the context of both readiness support activities and the implementation of Article 6 transactions. By delivering clear, professional, and impactful communications, the Associate will amplify the visibility and influence of GGGI’s carbon programming globally.
PURPOSE
The Communications Associate ensures process integrity in the delivery of communications services across the Carbon Finance Department. This includes providing multiple services — from digital platform management and social media outreach to event communications and brand compliance — that collectively support the department’s mandate.
This role exists to ensure that GGGI’s Article 6 and carbon programs are communicated with clarity, consistency, and impact across multiple platforms and audiences. The Associate contributes substantively by producing and editing communications outputs, applying brand guidelines, and maintaining digital channels. The role spans content creation, compliance, analytics, and training, ensuring not only that communications products meet a high standard, but also that they strategically enhance GGGI’s profile in carbon markets. It requires versatility — being able to draft, review, coordinate, train, and respond rapidly — and a balance of creativity and attention to detail. As such, this role requires a substantial amount of client orientation and coordination with internal and external stakeholders in support of communications outputs related to GGGI’s Article 6 programs under the Carbon Finance Department.
ENGAGEMENT
The Communications Associate works under the supervision of the Head of Readiness, and advises both internal colleagues and external partners on the most effective ways to communicate GGGI’s work. Internally, they collaborate with technical experts, project managers, and regional staff to shape messages that reflect both accuracy and impact. They coordinate with GGGI’s central Communications and Knowledge Sharing (COMMS-KS) team to ensure consistency with institutional guidelines and to prepare crisis communications when needed. They also convene and advise a global network of carbon communications focal points, organizing periodic meetings, orientations, and trainings to sustain a community of practice around communications. Externally, they engage media, social media audiences, and event participants with professional, timely, and tailored content that raises the visibility of GGGI’s work. Through these engagements, the Associate acts not just as a content producer, but as an advisor on communications approaches and improvements.
This role requires diplomacy and cross-team coordination, as well as responsiveness to senior management and partners in urgent communications contexts.
DELIVERY
The Communications Associate sustains standards of quality and reliability in all communications outputs. Deliverables include high-quality press releases, newsletters, social media posts, web updates, event communications products, and curated subscription insights. The Associate ensures that all outputs are consistent with GGGI’s communications and visibility requirements, and that they are produced on time and aligned with organizational priorities. Their delivery spans the full communications cycle, from planning and content development through to analytics and reporting. By coordinating external service providers and supporting crisis communication strategies, the Associate ensures continuity and resilience of communications services. Ultimately, this role maintains GGGI’s reputation for professional, consistent, and policy-aligned communications in the carbon space.
The Associate is responsible for the following delivery:
- Drafting, editing, and reviewing communications products such as press releases, newsletters, social media posts, website content, and event materials;
- Ensuring all outputs adhere to the communications and visibility plans and processes related to various projects and programs, acting as a compliance officer and trainer;
- Supporting project teams with the production of publications, from the planning, design, review, sign off and launch – including the launch of related social media campaigns, webinars or other modalities;
- Managing website updates, Mailchimp newsletters, and social media channels; preparing content calendars and publishing plans in coordination with project teams and the Carbon Finance Department’s management team;
- Create and maintain a document storage and archiving system for key communications artifacts (e.g. press releases, blog posts, etc.) for ease of reference for the Carbon Finance Department teams;
- Tracking communications performance analytics such as social media engagement, website traffic, newsletter open rates, reporting results, and suggesting improvements;
- Leading communications preparation and support for global climate events (COP, I4C, GGGW, Climate Weeks), including live coverage, media coordination, and branded materials;
- Managing the Carbon Finance Department’s subscription renewals and access, while curating highlights (e.g., Carbon Pulse news summaries) for internal circulation as required;
- Coordinating with senior management and HQ Comms on urgent or sensitive communications, preparing strategies in advance to ensure readiness;
- Organizing regular trainings and orientation sessions for comms focal points across the Carbon Department and carbon program/project teams, ensuring knowledge of branding and visibility standards.
Success will be measured by the reach, quality, and consistency of communications products, the effective use of analytics to improve strategies, and the visible impact of communications in strengthening GGGI’s carbon leadership globally.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, international relations, or a related field;
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in communications, outreach, or visibility roles;
- Demonstrated experience with drafting, editing, and managing professional communications materials a strong advantage;
- Experience managing social media outreach for projects, program or organizations, ideally in the climate change or environmental sector preferred;
- Experience coordinating with external service providers for the production of publications and managing communications workflows a strong advantage;
- Professional fluency in English (written and spoken); other languages an advantage.
FUNCTIONAL
- Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills across multiple formats and audiences;
- Strong understating of the process for developing high quality publications from start to finish;
- Strong knowledge of social media platforms and trends, with experience producing engaging content;
- Familiarity with analytics tools for monitoring communications performance;
- Experience using Mailchimp, website CMS platforms, and design tools (Canva, Adobe);
- Ability to train colleagues on communications standards and coordinate global focal point networks.
