The director for Individual Philanthropy will serve as a key leader within The Asia Foundation’s individual philanthropy team, responsible for designing, implementing, and expanding a robust individual giving program. This role will focus on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of mass and major donors, as well as building strategies to engage high-net-worth individuals globally.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, relationship builder, and results-oriented fundraiser with a proven record of securing significant gifts in the $50,000+ range and the ability to inspire philanthropic investment in international causes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a multiyear strategy to grow individual giving revenue, including major gifts, legacy giving, and endowment campaigns;
  • Partner with the Chief of Strategic Engagement to identify, engage, and solicit prospects;
  • Manage a portfolio of 60–80 major donors and prospects, crafting compelling cases for support and personalized stewardship plans;
  • Oversee donor pipeline management, forecasting, and innovative engagement opportunities such as events, travel programs, and thought-leadership convenings;
  • Collaborate with communications to create targeted messaging, impact reports, and donor campaigns;
  • Mentor and support fundraising staff; coordinate with program teams across Asia and the Pacific to align fundraising strategies with programmatic needs;
  • Guide the professional growth of the Individual Philanthropy team and foster cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • 8–12 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising with significant success in major gift fundraising and portfolio growth;
  • Proven ability to build and manage a robust donor pipeline and secure $50,000+ gifts;
  • Strong knowledge of international development or related fields and global philanthropy trends;
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, and presentation skills; ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree;
  • Experience working cross-culturally and supporting international causes.
