The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 major and offers courses in approximately 31 languages. With 38 departments, 20+ world-class research centers, and more than 2,000 faculty and staff members, students have the unique opportunity to study with the best artists, scholars, and scientists in their field. The Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures (CLLC) represents the 31+ languages and 7 language departments at OSU. We believe that the knowledge of one or more languages and the literatures and cultures they represent are essential components of a 21st-century education. Globalization, democratization, and rapidly changing technology continually transform our increasingly interconnected world, posing new challenges and opportunities. In response, the Center offers graduate and undergraduate students the intellectual, linguistic, and cultural tools they will need to succeed personally and professionally in our complex global economy. The Outreach Coordinator who will join our team will collaborate with leaders, students, administrative staff, and community members to initiate, advise, and assist in the execution and management of a variety of initiatives originating in or supported by the CLLC.

In collaboration with representatives from a variety of campus partners (Wexner Medical Center, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Office of International Affairs, Office of Diversity and Inclusion) the Outreach Coordinator will re-imagine the Hagerty Hall Global Gallery with an Intercultural Competence theme and develop the space with new immersive/experiential technologies and content that can be solicited from campus programs (e.g. graduate student projects in Art, Film, Art Administration, etc.) in order to create a hub for campus Intercultural Competence. This individual will develop, maintain, and update the installation and technology annually.

The Outreach Coordinator will be the lead organizer of an annual or biannual conference with administrative support from the CLLC staff. The topic of the conference will be developed in collaboration with language units in Hagerty Hall, and this individual will be expected to apply for grant funding within OSU Arts and Sciences and external to OSU with support from the Senior Grants and Contracts Specialist in the College and the Office of Sponsored Programs.

This individual will develop the website for the conference, manage advertising, hire graduate student assistants, and manage the conference essentials, such as the calls for proposals, the presentation selection process, booking the venue and hotel space, creating conference paraphernalia (name tags, pens, folders, etc.).

The Outreach Coordinator will assist in identifying growth opportunities in world languages by developing innovative OSU and outreach programs, which may include but will not be limited to developing and managing initiatives funded by the endowment associated with the Advanced Language Institute, developing, and managing world language recruitment initiatives such as a world languages high school day (on zoom and in person on campus) and alumni day, community internship programs.This individual will be charged with identifying and applying for external grant funding to support these new CLLC initiatives, again working with support from the Senior Grants and Contracts Specialist in the College and the Office of Sponsored Programs.

The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for the CLLC media and communication, i.e., developing, designing, and implementing strategic and tactical communications plans for the CLLC. This individual consults with and implements marketing strategies for department-level goals, being a liaison between the CLLC and the college’s Marketing and Communications office; manages, develops and creates print and digital ads, promotional materials and advertising for the CLLC; promotes and assists in marketing special events for CLLC and larger department special events that are open to all; manages digital displays and promotional collateral in Hagerty Hall cafe and lobby to market events; develops and maintains email lists of faculty, graduate students, staff and undergraduates to use in promotion and communication; Serves as content manager of CLLC marketing channels, including the website (including event calendar and news), social media (Facebook, Twitter) and email account.

Required: UG degree with at least three to five years experience or an MA, media and communication skills, background in a language other than English, superb organizational skills, superb communication skills, experience leading large projects

Desired: experience writing grants, background in immersive/experiential technology, experience planning conferences

Additional Information:

The target hiring range for this position is $21.50-$24.00 per hour.
