The British High Commission in Nicosia is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Project Support Officer – New Build.
Are you the organiser who can keep a high‑profile build on track?
The FCDO have a major works project to build a new High Commission office building, gatehouse, High Commissioner’s residence and ancillary facilities within the existing compound in Nicosia, Cyprus.
To manage the work FCDO are deploying a number of staff members and have engaged external suppliers to support the delivery on site.
The Project Support Officer will work closely with the FCDO Project Manager (PM) and the wider Corporate Services Team to support the construction of a new High Commission building.
We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, and results-oriented individual with a strong administrative background. The role requires flexibility, strong multitasking abilities, and the capacity to adapt to shifting priorities. Responsibilities may evolve in line with the changing needs of the High Commission build project.
The Project Support Officer will be required to build and maintain positive, professional and trusting working relationships with key stakeholders, manage expectations and assist both the FCDO PM and Post to coordinate activities related to the new build project.
As this is a newly created position, the responsibilities and scope of the role may evolve in alignment with the ongoing development of the New Build project and the identification of emerging needs.
The key deliverables include:
Stake Holder Engagement & Communications (60%):
- Assist the FCDO PM and Post with stakeholder engagement, both internal and external.
- Attend meetings and take minutes to accurately record the discussions.
- Maintain project related documentation, ensuring it is kept up to date and distributed as required.
This may include trackers, cost schedules, reports etc. Assist with Greek language related matters, including translation of documents as required.
Estates/Project Admin tasks (20%):
- Provide general day to day support to the FCDO PM and Post on all new build matters.
- Assist Post with the preparation of VAT exemption forms and liaising with suppliers on invoice and payment issues.
- Assist Post with to local matters related to residency permits, driving licences etc, including liaising with the MFA and local government as required.
- Assist Post with Customs related matters including clearance for items related to the project works (i.e. Diplomatic bags/shipment and Government Art Collection items).
Project Management (20%):
Assist Post with the management of rental properties provided for project staff, including:
- Initial set up, purchase of furniture and permanent float items.
- Preparation of statuary requirements and leases.
- Regular maintenance & compliance tasks.
- Manage the Estates Maintenance Mailbox and track all work requests, keeping internal teams, customers and delivery partners fully informed.
- Liaison with landlords for any repairs or servicing and bi-annual property inspections.
- Add properties to internal database Planon and manage for the duration.
- Add officers to Planon and manage for the duration.
- Managing and paying the cleaning contract.
- Managing the generation of requisitions, processing purchase orders, invoices and executing card payments.
As this is a newly created position, the responsibilities and scope of the role may evolve in alignment with the ongoing development of the New Build project and the identification of emerging needs
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Our ideal candidate has:
- Fluency in oral and written English and Greek (minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field or equivalent experience;
- Proven experience of at least three years in a similar role (e.g. public service/government office management, project delivery in public service/government, general office management, administrative role);
- Experience in stakeholder management and customer engagement;
- Strong communications and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate to all levels in a clear and concise manner;
- Excellent self-management, attention to detail and organizational skills;
- Ability to think critically and creatively, work under pressure and prioritize effectively in the midst of conflicting priorities and competing demands;
- Confident using Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and project scheduling software;
- Positive outlook with a can do attitude;
- Valid and clean driving licence and willingness to drive as part of job duties.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
Good to have:
- Demonstrated experience supporting project delivery in a construction environment;
- Experience working within estates or facilities functions;
- Experience working in an international environment;
- Proven experience working directly with senior management while collaborating effectively across all levels of the organisation.

Other benefits and conditions of employment
This is a 12 months fixed-term contract.
The confirmation of appointment is subject to professional background checks and security clearance procedures, as well as the successful completion of a 6 months probation period.
The successful candidate must be free of any convictions and undergo a UK security clearance process.
