UNDP ‘s programme is designed to address the interlinked issues of poverty, inequality and vulnerability to shocks and is managed within two portfolios:

Responsive Institutions and Citizen Engagement which works towards strengthening effective, accountable and inclusive governance that promotes civic engagement, respect for human rights, rule of law, peace and democracy. It also works towards strengthening data generation and analysis.

Resilience and Sustainable Growth which focusses on enhancing economic innovation, inclusive business, job creation, and renewable energy access. It also works towards helping Malawi adapt to climate change and build resilience to disasters.

Context

UNDP is a global knowledge network that promotes human development
and connects countries with knowledge, experiences and resources to help
people build better lives. In line with the Malawi 2063, MIP1 and UNDP CPD. The YouthConnekt is a multifaceted initiative aimed at providing a comprehensive answer to the several challenges faced by the youth. It aims at connecting young people with peers and role models, skills development, and access to finance and entrepreneurship.

YouthConnekt Africa takes a ‘platform approach’ to solving challenging development issues, and brings together a wide range of stakeholders, including heads of state, business leaders, development partners and civil society, to address the multiple needs of young people while also fully involving them in the solution building process.

YouthConnekt Malawi is one of the 33 national chapters of YouthConnekt Africa. A Malawi government-led platform for young people to contribute to policy dialogues, co-designing and informing decisions on the investments and programs aimed at empowering them. The platform champions youth empowerment by connecting the Malawian youth to socio-economic transformation. The platform embodies the slogan “nothing for youth without youth” and “leaving no one behind”. Young people can connect with their peers across the continents, and have access to continental-wide knowledge, skills and opportunities. YouthConnekt Malawi builds an ecosystem of already existing youth initiatives and supports them through the platform by providing access to technical expertise, funding opportunities, knowledge sharing and partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

A majority of youth-led organisations in Malawi are facing problems mobilizing resources for their interventions due to the global changes in the funding landscape. There is a growing interest for capacity development for resource mobilization, proposal and concept development even crowdfunding. The OV will provide a training in Proposal and concept note development training for Youth-led organisation. The OV will be requested to develop a curriculum for the training as well as any presentation materials required.

Specifically, the volunteer will be expected to do the following:

• Develop a training curriculum on:
o Writing generic funding proposals & concept notes
o Resource mobilization strategies (tailored to Sub-Saharan Africa)
• Create training materials (presentations, handouts, etc.)
• Deliver online training (weekday sessions)
• Include practical tasks/exercises for participants

Required Skills and Experience

• Proposal & Grant Writing (for NGOs/youth organizations)

• Resource Mobilization Strategies (including crowdfunding)

• Understanding of Sub-Saharan Africa’s funding landscape

• Training & Curriculum Development (for capacity building)

• Presentation & Facilitation Skills (online training delivery)

• Practical Task Design (interactive exercises for learners)
