JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: H&N officer

TEAM/PROGRAMME: Health & Nutrition LOCATION: Herat

GRADE: National 5 POST TYPE: Project Based

CHILD SAFEGUARDING: Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff

ROLE PURPOSE: The H&N officer will support the implementation of GFFOs projects and work capacity building of project staff through provision of technical support and conducting health and nutrition training and conducting supportive supervision visit to the project sites and provide on the Job Coaching of the project staff in this role, the postholder will support the H&N program Coordinator in successful implementation of the project.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Implementation

1. Support Health and Nutrition project coordinator on the day-to-day implementation of IMHNTs and project activities.

2. Collect and analyse weekly, monthly reports from provincial team and provide constructive feedback for further improvement of program delivery.

3. Undertake 50% field visits from the project sites and meet with beneficiaries’ communities and leaders, to ensure project effectiveness and community involvement in decision making on IMHNT services.

4. Support the training need assessment with the provincial program team, prepare the administration for trainings outlined on TNA for the Mobile health and nutrition team staff

5. Follow all procurement and recruitment for the project with relevant department at CO to ensure timely procurement and recruitment of project staff at each province.

6. Attend relevant procurement committee meeting at CO office and represent H&N department as a technical person in the committee.

7. Provide joint supportive supervision to project sites and undertake regular joint monitoring of the project activities with the Health Specialist and PDQ staff

8. Work closely with supply chain team to ensure all project related items procured and dispatched on timely manner to the targeted provinces

9. Periodically check the data entry on nutrition online database with field team to ensure quality and consistency of reports.

10. Compile and generate the training reports conducted in provinces.

11. Work closely with the Save the children program teams, including other sectors, to develop applicable materials on child rights, child protection, participation, health education, environmental protection etc.

12. Perform any other task relevant to the scope of work as assigned by the line manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

 Medical Degree (MD)

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Essential

 Graduated from recognized medical faculty with four years of experience in health and nutrition project management.

 Medical Diploma (MD) with previous experience of working in the Health and Nutrition projects.

 Familiarity with HMIS/Nutrition online databases of MoPH will be an asset

 Good knowledge and experience of Project Management skill including basic administration and management.

 Good knowledge and experience of Health and nutrition training delivery.

 A thorough understanding of project cycle management, especially M&E processes, and reporting –

 Excellent reputation/well-known

Relevant experience in humanitarian response, particularly in high-paced, first-phase emergency settings, familiarity with local context along with a background in the INGO sector and demonstrated management of health teams and services, will be considered a significant advantage for this role.

The duties and responsibilities set out above are not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to carry out additional duties from time to time which are reasonable in relation to their level of skills and experience.

In the event of a significant humanitarian emergency, the post-holder will be expected to work outside their normal job description; vary their working hours; and occasionally work from a different location should the need arise.
