The British Embassy Dubai has a vacancy for a Learning Content Designer, job grade Executive Officer (EO) on a fixed-term contract for two (2) years.

The role is based within the Office of the British Embassy in Dubai, but has a global remit, working with stakeholders across the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and servicing 17,000 staff across a global network of 281 offices.

The FCDO has set out a high ambition vision for establishing a new College of British Diplomacy as a world class institution for international relations, capability and professional development. This is a high-profile project which forms part of the FCDO 2030 agenda. We aim to situate the FCDO as the lead and main source of capability and expertise on development, diplomacy and international leadership for the UK government. Our current vision is to achieve an FCDO learning culture which equips all staff with the right capabilities and expertise in the right places to support FCDO 2030.

We are looking for an individual with excellent content design skills gained in a workplace learning and development (L&D) context who can develop high-quality, accessible and engaging content across multiple learning projects. Working under the leadership of a Learning Designer, this role focuses on writing, structuring, and shaping content for digital L&D interventions, with scope to expand into face-to-face resources in the future. You will have strong writing skills, making complex content understandable to different audiences, and ensuring it is aligned to specific outcomes and based on instructional design theories. You will be detail-oriented, with an excellent command of English and have the ability to bring content to life in an engaging way.

This is an exciting role that will evolve as the College of British Diplomacy continues to mature. The successful incumbent should expect to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, including working across teams. The role may require occasional international travel.

Duties and responsibilities:

Learning content design and development

  • Draft and structure learning content for a variety of digital and non-digital formats.
  • Create performance support materials including job aids such as checklists, toolkits, quick reference guides and so on.
  • Update and maintain e-learning products using authoring tools such as Articulate.

Content writing and standards

  • Script and edit content storyboards, redraft complex language into Plain English.
  • Apply appropriate content standards and style guidelines to your work.
  • Use AI tools responsibly to accelerate content drafting and editing.

Quality assurance

  • Lead on the quality control (QC) process for learning products, carrying out detailed reviews to ensure high standards of consistency and standardisation; review and act on user testing feedback.
  • Continuously improve the QC process.

Stakeholder engagement

  • Engage with multiple project stakeholders building strong relationships and demonstrating clear communication; collaborate with teammates across projects and share information effectively.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • 3-5 years’ experience of designing digital learning content in an L&D context, either in the public or private sector.
  • Proven ability to write and edit high-quality digital learning content, apply style guides and editorial standards; excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely in written and oral formats.
  • Experience working with subject matter experts to elicit, structure, and review content effectively.
  • Awareness of and ability to use AI tools responsibly to support and accelerate content creation and editing processes.
  • Experience in quality assurance of digital learning products, including reviewing user testing feedback and contributing to continuous improvement of content and processes.
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented, with a commitment to maintaining high standards and consistency across deliverables.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple pieces of work simultaneously, competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrates a proactive, self-starter approach to work; able to take ownership of tasks, work independently without close supervision, and drive progress with minimal direction.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Professional qualification in L&D (e.g. CIPD, ATD, or equivalent).
  • Experience using e-learning authoring tools such as Articulate Rise, Captivate or similar.
  • Awareness of instructional design theories and their practical application, design thinking, user experience design and WCAG2.1.
  • Experience of working in a remote team.

Other benefits and conditions of employment

Working hours and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, which includes 25 days of leave per annum (calculated pro-rata).

The salary for this role is AED 16,492 per month.

There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

This role is for a full-time employment, on a fixed term contract basis for two (2) years, subject to six (6) months’ probationary period. The contract may be extended, subject to satisfactory performance and on on-going business requirement.

The Embassy is open from Monday to Friday from 0700 to 1800 hrs. The Employee’s normal weekly working hours are forty (40) Monday to Friday (inclusive). This is inclusive of one-hour paid rest break for each five (5) hours worked; the timing of the rest break shall be approved by the Employee’s Line Manager and in accordance with operational requirements.

As this is a global role, the successful candidate should expect to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, including working with teams across different time zones which will sometimes involve working out of hours.

This role may require occasional international travel for business purposes. The successful candidate must be able to secure visas for these countries.

The Embassy has an active Learning and Development Committee, and the whole of Post is committed to providing the time and resources for staff to develop personally and professionally. The 70/20/10 learning and development model is applied in a flexible manner, with extensive informal and formal opportunities readily available.

The successful candidate will be required to transfer their visa under the Embassy”s sponsorship.
