JOB DESCRIPTION
Organization Mission
To lead and inspire the Caribbean region in the global effort to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. We are committed to ensuring equitable access to HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support services, while championing human rights, social justice, and the elimination of stigma and discrimination.
Context
This Online Volunteer assignment is designed to strengthen the institutional capacity of SASOD Guyana, a leading civil society organization advocating for human rights, social justice, and inclusion. By supporting SASOD’s core programmes Human Rights, Homophobia(s) Education, and Human Services—the volunteers will contribute directly to advancing Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This assignment provides a unique opportunity for international professionals to engage virtually in meaningful, rights-based work. By sharing their expertise in research, communications, and development, the Online Volunteers will help build a more resilient and responsive civil society sector in Guyana—one that is better equipped to address systemic inequalities and promote human dignity for all.
Key Responsibilities
The Online Volunteers will play a key role in enhancing SASOD Guyana’s institutional capacity across its three flagship programmes: Human Rights, Homophobia(s) Education, and Human Services. This opportunity offers a dynamic and collaborative space for the volunteers to contribute meaningfully within a rights-based, non-profit setting, supporting initiatives through research, strategic communications, advocacy, and project development.
The primary outputs are:
– Develop a resource mobilization plan tailored to the unique needs of SASOD Guyana and its 3H programmes, with a focus on long-term sustainability.
– Collaborate directly with SASOD’s Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and engage key stakeholders to draft compelling, unsolicited grant proposals that reflect strategic priorities and amplify community impact.
– Build internal capacity by designing and delivering tailored training sessions, providing mentorship, and offering hands-on support to strengthen the skills of staff, interns, and affiliated partners in fundraising, grant development, and strategic planning.
Required Skills and Experience
This support is ideally suited for professionals with demonstrated expertise in grant writing, resource mobilization, fundraising, and organizational development.
Candidates should have strong research and analytical skills, experience in strategic communications and advocacy, and a solid understanding of human rights and social justice issues—particularly those affecting LGBTQIA+ communities and people living with HIV. Prior experience working with civil society organizations, especially in the Global South, and familiarity with virtual collaboration tools are highly desirable
