Overview

Botswana has a youthful population, with approximately 60% of the population below 35 years. Specifically, 42% are under 25 years, and 18.7% fall within the 15 to 24-year age range. This demographic trend highlights the significant presence and potential of young people in the country to significantly contribute to development. While Botswana’s economy has grown rapidly since its independence in 1966, the country faces challenges such as high unemployment rates (27.6%) and significant income inequality (Gini index: 53.3). These issues affect young people, who often struggle to find employment and face economic disparities.
