Mission and objectives
The United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) is an autonomous research institute within the UN system that undertakes interdisciplinary research and policy analysis on the social dimensions of contemporary development issues. Our Mission Through our work we aim to ensure that social equity, inclusion and justice are central to development thinking, policy and practice. To this end, we focus on the often neglected social content and impacts of development processes and the role of social institutions, relations and actors in shaping development policies and pathways; engage researchers, policy makers and civil society actors from around the world in generating and sharing knowledge, in order to shape policy within and beyond the UN system; mobilize and strengthen the research capacity of individuals and institutions in developing countries through collaborative inquiry; and provide a space for the exchange of ideas, giving prominence to marginalized viewpoints, often challenging mainstream development thinking and offering alternative policy options.
Context
The International Forum We, the Youth (IFWY) is a global platform co-organized by UNRISD and Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC)—one of South Korea’s largest broadcasting companies—designed to amplify the voices and leadership of young people in shaping global development policies. To ensure that IFWY reaches and mobilizes a truly global and diverse audience of young changemakers, the organizing team is launching a global communication effort focused on storytelling, peer outreach, and digital participation. Online Volunteers will play a vital role in this campaign by using their own platforms and creativity to raise awareness, drive engagement, and inspire youth action across borders. Attention: Although UNRISD is a co-organizing entity of the IFWY platform, the Online UN Volunteers’ involved in this project will not be considered staff or affiliates of UNRISD. Their responsibilities are limited to offering the tasks included in this description. Online Volunteers must not advertise or publicly disclose their relationship with the United Nations for any purpose. Additionally, Online Volunteers are prohibited from using the names, emblems, or official seals of the United Nations or UNRISD, or any abbreviation of these organizations, in connection with their business or in any other manner without obtaining written permission from UNRISD’ Head of Administration.
Task Description
Specifically, each Community Engagement Online Volunteer will be supporting IFWY with: – Vote for at least 5 policy ideas, everyday in the IFWY platform. – Personally invite at least 20 young people—especially from underrepresented regions or communities—to register on the IFWY platform and vote for policy solutions. – Provide basic peer-to-peer support (via messaging or social posts) to help the new users you have invited understand how the platform works. – Follow and engage with IFWY Social Media Platforms (Instagram, Twitter and YouTube). Further, during the assignment, Online Volunteers have to: – Adhere to IFWY’s communication guidelines. – All content must follow IFWY’s communication guidelines and will be supported periodically by the IFWY communications focal point. Time Commitment & Work Arrangement · 11 hours per week (June – July 20, 2025). · All Online Volunteers will be required to attend an 1-hour onboarding session. · Fully remote & flexible schedule.
