Zoë ************

I am aspiring to work in an environment that gives me an exposure to the issues that I am passionate about. I have a strong interest in policy advocacy, sustainable finance, financial crime and the various issues brought on by rapid digitalisation on the world. I also have an interest in humanitarian issues that plague the modern world we live in; it is the reason I chose to read the law because I believe in its ability to influence human rights causes. Critically thought out laws allow good policies to come into fruition. I would like to make my contribution back to society by working to implement laws and advocating for policies that benefit people, agencies, non-profit organisations, and governments.

I have sought to achieve such experience through my work at Valen, Oh & Partners. During my tenure, I have had the opportunity to work on pro-bono cases for refugees trying to seek asylum in Malaysia under the mentorship of highly experienced and seasoned lawyers. This has made me familiar with the necessary legal procedures that need to be taken before one is given asylum officially and I have given legal counsel to refugees who were in need based on the U.N. Refugee Agency!s (UNHCR) Refugee Status Determination procedures. Furthermore, I have negotiated with employers in cases for refugees to receive fair remuneration. I have also worked with companies such as EcoWorld and Malaysian AIDS Council, and have learned how to manage projects as well as acclimatising myself to work well in teams. I have experience in legal drafting of contracts between individuals, companies as well as government bodies. This has honed my ability to think critically and analytically before any decision making.

I have also been exposed to the international film fraternity working in Dayan Productions which has given me good familiarity with the mechanics and communications with international bodies such as National Geographic, BBC, Astro and many others. I have had the wonderful opportunity of working with people from all walks of life, which resulted in my ability to be diplomatic and patient while conducting business to ensure everyone leaves the table satisfied. I have writing and researching skills that stemmed from mountains of script research needed to be done for films and TV series. Moreover, I acquired language skills from my involvement with foreign companies and it has allowed me to be able to converse in French and Italian to further ease the business process.
I would like to continue learning new things through different opportunities so that I may be able to help the society around me. International relations is a field I would like to pursue further; the study and work of diplomacy, cooperation between nations and government bodies is an arena that would I would love to be a part of. I hope that my passion and talents for the law and policy advocacy would aid me to fulfil my professional ambitions.
