In celebration of World Contraception Day on September 26, the United Nations Foundation’s Universal Access Project is sharing the stories of six incredible women we met on a recent trip to Haiti and how access to contraception is helping them build a better life for themselves and their families.
Around the world, 225 million girls and women still face barriers in accessing quality reproductive health information and services, and these challenges are particularly stark in Haiti, where unmet need for family planning remains high and women have a 1 in 80 chance of dying from maternal causes. Thanks to the work of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), USAID, Haitian non-governmental groups, and the government of Haiti, progress is being made.
These six women are a testament to that progress. Check out their photos, videos, and stories here.
